Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better than the general public by the name of Queen Latifah is an American performer, actress and acrobat. Her work as a music, film and TV artist has garnered the actress the distinction of two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also received an Grammy Award as well as six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born in Newark New Jersey. The couple split after Latifah, then ten years aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah is a word that means gentle and kind. The name was given by her cousin to her at the age of eight years old. Being a tall girl, the 5'10 tall Latifah was a power forward on her basketball team in high school. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz during a play in her high school. Latifah was part of the Ladies Fresh, a rap group which launched her beatboxing career. Latifah used to be a part of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created a demo of the rapper Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He gave the recording to host Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music has signed Latifah following her hearing of the song. The singer released her debut single Wrath of My Madness, in the year 1988.
